An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure ~ Benjamin Franklin

When Computers are running smoothly, and the file server has the spreadsheet you need, we forget that these things can and often will break.
This Bulletin’s goal is to keep the digital things you need, safe(!), at home and at work.

Picture this: You get an email from a vendor. You didn’t order anything, but yet, for some odd reason, here’s a receipt.
What do you do and how can you tell if this email is legitimate?
- Check the “From" Address:
Does it come from the correct email address? Extra letters? Extra dots?
- Spelling and Grammar errors
We’re all human and not beyond typos, but red flags should fly if an email feels off, or has excessive typos.
- Unexpected Links or Attachments
Are they sending you a PDF or Photo you weren’t expecting?
- Verify the Email separately
Contacting the sender (like with a phone call), is a great way to confirm an email is authentic.

Best Practices for suspicious emails
If you have questions, or believe an email isn't authentic, Contact IT or delete it immediately!
To Minimize risk of Damage or Infection, never forward the email to someone else (as we have done in the past).
If you would like to reference or review the email, get IT to stop by your desk or take a screenshot*.
* On Mac take a screenshot with CMD + SHIFT + 4

FYI: Rockwood File Server Backups!
| Daily Backups |
Every night, a hard drive next to our server grabs an up to date backup copy of each of our files!
| On-site |
Each distinct version of each file is stored for at least a month.
(12+ months in most cases)
| In the Cloud |
In case anything happens to our server AND hard drive, we keep an encrypted cloud backup!
This extensive backup system is why storing Business Critical files on the server (instead of your desktop) is so important!
When a file on the server accidentally get's deleted or changed, rest easy; We've got a backup!
